SWX Contest Winners
Also, a big thank-you to our judges -- Keith Peters, Carlos Ulloa, John Grden, Scott Janousek, Alessandro Pace, Richard Leggett, Jed Hurt, Folkert Hielema, and Wouter Verweirder -- for taking time out of their busy schedules to review and provide such detailed feedback on each of entries.
Finally, many thanks to our sponsors for the prizes: Adobe, Lynda.com, Buraks.com, Friends of ED, and yours truly.
So, without further ado, here are our winners.
In the Web category, there was some fierce competition in the top three but Gal to Gal Walk by R. Jon MacDonald inched its was to first place with Toni's Bauernsuche by Muevo and Moodley in at a close second and Extraordinary Careers by Adam Boyle taking third place. Congratulations, Jon!
We also had some great entries in the APIs category but the clear winner was SWXml by Florian Plag.
SWXml is a generic XML parser for SWX that provides Flash developers with a very easy way to create applications that consume popular XML format (e.g. RSS Feeds, Atom, Media RSS, etc.). SWXml parses an XML file and returns an native ActionScript array.
As one of our judges commented: "I think that the clear winner is SWXml; it's a great idea and it's by far the best documented of all the entries. I'd say that of all the entries, SWXml has the greatest chance of drawing new users to SWX."
The SWX Backpack Service by Mike Stead was a close second in the APIs category and was praised by our judges for its completeness and attention to detail. The SubmitVerisignPayment SWX API by R. Jon MacDonald came in third.
Finally, the winner in our mobile category was another entry by Florian Plag, miniRSS, a mobile RSS reader. Tweeter by Aran Rhee took second place and SWX Blogger by Peter Elst came in third. Congratulations, Florian!
And just to remind everyone what prizes Jon and Florian have won: They will be receiving a copy of Adobe Web Suite Premium, Lynda.com 1 Year Premium Subscription, Nabaztag/tag bunny, iPod Touch, A copy of ActionScript Viewer (ASV) and books from Friends of ED.
(And something tells me Florian is going to be a very happy bunny as he'll be receiving two sets of prizes for winning in two categories!)
I am going to be forwarding the winners details to our sponsors so they can ship out the prizes and will be contacting the winners personally to make arrangements for getting them the Nabaztag/Tag bunnies and iPod touches that I'm contributing.
Congratulations again to our winners and thank you to everyone who took part in the contest.
Happy Holidays!

Congratulations to all winners,
and congratulations to all who participated: Some intresting stuff in there.
Good job, all!
Big congrats to the winners. There was some healthy competition out there, and it’ll be handy to implement some of the new API’s.
Enjoy your bunnies!
Hey, that’s a really cool surprise at Christmas Eve. Thank you so much!!!
Merry Christmas and happy holidays to all.
By the way, there’s a little misspelling at SWXml description: It’s Plag not Palg (sounds funny
)
Apoligies, Florian — I was double checking your name especially (’cos I keep getting it wrong) but that one got away
Sweet! Thanks Aral and judges — but let’s not forget that none of this would have been possible without Aral’s massive effort in developing SWX!
Nice nice nice…
Congrats winners and thanks a lot judges and a: Aral and b: sponsors for a: SWX and b: the wonderfull Prices.
Now let’s see what 2008 will bring us all
congrats to the winners! Can you make two bunnies talk to eachother Florian?
Wouter — Yes, you can make two Nabaztag’s communicate with each other. On the website you can “marry” two bunnies so when you move the ears on one of them, the ears move on the other to the exact same position.
Congrats to all the winners! It’s great to see the projects people have been working on which I wouldn’t necessarily have seen.
Thanks to Aral and the judges too.
congrats to the winners
good work!
congrats!
Congrats to all winners!!!
And a big thanks to the sponsors and organizers for getting people to develop cool stuff
Hey, let this not be the end of the contribution of API’s and neat tools for SWX. Just because theres not a prize to be won, theres surely reason to keep coming up with ideas and realizing those ideas.
Hey Aral, maybe a page on the SWX site where people can post “most wanted” APIs and tools, would be good?
Oh, and good work, guys!
Hi Lee,
That’s a great idea.
In fact, I want to concentrate on the most important part of SWX (the APIs) this year.
Lots of people aren’t aware that the SWX APIs can also be consumed via Flash Remoting (using the AMF gateway, amf.php) and via the other gateways supported by AMFPHP (JSON, etc.)
(AMFPHP is included in SWX PHP as a library so we get all that functionality for free.)
I also think that this is a great idea! A place for collecting ideas and talking about APIs would be very nice.
By the way, I had to start with another API
It’s an iCal API for .ics files. Here’s a first version:
SWX API: iCal Parser for Flash (.ics)
