The Gal To Gal Foundation has a new web site and online campaign for the Gal To Gal Virtual Walk 2007. It aims to improve the lives of women diagnosed with Stage IV breast cancer and is expected to raise $1m. The site is due to be featured on the Martha Stewart Show on Monday, October 1st to a national audience in the United States.

The site it uses SWX RPC, with a SWX PHP back-end.

Jon MacDonald has a case study of the Gal To Gal Virtual Walk project, wherein he explains that the entire site was built in one-and-a-half weeks:

SWX is used extensively throughout the site to communicate with the back-end and database. This enabled the rapid development timeline, and made the process of storing and passing data through PHP seamless. I haven't seen any other true sites built with SWX, but rather small mash-ups and widgets, so I believe this is a first for the SWX project.

In Flickr Fractal by Eugene, the screen slowly fills up with pictures from Flickr. Click on a picture to see it larger.

Flickr Desktop

In Flickr Desktop by Eugene, photo thumbnails are flung randomly onto a virtual desktop. Click to drag (and fling) photos around. Double-click a photo to see it larger. Right-click to change the placement of photos (to see only photos, drawings, the last twenty or a random selection) and to go full screen.

Flickr Word

In Flickr Word by Eugene, you type some text and see it displayed using Flickr photos, either as a font, or (as in the screenshot above) with pictures of letters. Right-click to access the various options. In full-screen mode, I was able to use the scroll-wheel (two-finger dragging on my MacBook Pro's trackpad) to quickly change the zoom factor.

In Flower Field by Eugene, a lovely green field fills with multi-colored flowers that react to your mouse. The flower heads are made from randomly-selected flower images from Flickr.

Swadge Twitter Badge

Swadge by Folkert Hielema is a Twitter badge that displays the Twitter stream of you and your friends. You can also update your Twitter status and customize the colors of the badge to fit the color scheme of your blog or web site.

Swoot multi-site shoutbox

Swoot by Folkert Hielema is an anonymous multi-site shoutbox. Think of it as Twitter for web sites. Leave a short message and it will display on every site that has a Swoot badge.

SWX Numpa API

Folkert has created a SWX API for Numpa. Numpa is like Twitter, but in Netherlands (Dutch).

The Numpa API is now also hosted on the public SWX gateway so you can explore it online and use it in your own applications without writing any server-side code yourself.

The web site makes use of CakeSWXPHP and uses SWX in a novel manner, as explained by the site's developer, Adam Royle:

The site doesn't access the gateway directly - the swf is generated when the site is published from the admin section, and uploaded to the site with the rest of the site files.

What I initially thought would be a big task - getting all of the data into flash in a way that was fast and easy to work with - was a breeze, all thanks to swx! All of the site data (content, image paths, video paths, etc) is loaded upon startup and is less than 25kb - much less than the json equivalent I also tried!

So swx isn't just great for truly "dynamic" situations - it's even useful for generating static data.
